That's my kind of shorty build. The little 9" 3-round and 6" 2-round custom jobs have some novelty value, but a 12/12.5" barrel still makes for a very short and handy shotgun, and you still get to have a proper fore-end, a decent magazine capacity, and complete barrel interchangeability.

For sure. I initially purchased a +1 mag extension and a cheap NEA 14" heavy barrel that didn't fit at all. I guess that was the risk with going cheap. Should have bought quality the first time… Oh well. The Dlask 12.5 turns out to be better on all fronts. It not only fits perfectly but it has a superbly polished chamber/bore, and already has a sight (the NEA was a plain barrel). It's also nice that it states the manufactured barrel length on it as chopping a barrel to this length would be illegal (but buying it manufactured at this length is fine - go figure).

The 12.5" barrel also took away the temptation for a mag extension, which would have potentially decreased reliability slightly and also required me to remove the mag tube dimples. I like that I can swap barrels without having to deal with a loose mag spring.

I thought I would miss having the ability to mount a weapon light but I did some practicing with a handheld and it works just fine. Plus, I can illuminate something without pointing the gun at it if I need to.

I haven't fired the 870 in shorty configuration yet but I have a shooting day planned with some friends in a couple days. I'll put it through it's paces then.

1958 Wingmaster that was beat to shreds and had blood faded bluing. Built using the KISS principle, Remington synthetic stock and factory 3 round extension, Dave's aluminum follower, Vang safety, Allen buttstock shell holder [yeah, I know it's short 2 rounds] and the barrel cut to 21".

Well I did this to my magpul butt stock and forend. I got this rubberized grip tape by 3M at my local hardware store, all they had was this grey color but I don't think it looks to bad on there.
I will say it gave me a better profile on my forend than having that MOE AFG that I did have on it. I like this so much better. Yes that is a light mount on there with a magpul cantilever rail and Magpul flashlight mount, with a Acid Tactical 200 lumen 3 setting light. Low, high beam and strobe setting, came with a pressure switch and rechargeable battery and charger.
I only paid like $2.50 for a 1 ft x 6 inch strip of this and it sticks on there good, used a heat gun to heat it up just like all the other ones out there.

Made some mods to my Tactical over Christmas. Not anything major or overly Tacti-cool, but still a very simple HD gun. I already had the Mesa Tactical side saddle with rail from earlier.

Magpul FDE forend and stock and single point sling mount. I still have the old leather rifle sling on her right now. Don't have a good single point sling yet.

Rails on both sides of the forend. Figured I could mount a light on one side and whatever on the other. Maybe a second light if the first one fails. More is better, right?

I did install a breech adapter on my HD gun. This is a Pumkin Puncher Type C from Home Front Defense Devices ( http://www.hfd2.com ). Not much call for it in my opinion, but what are you going to do when your wife buys it for you for Christmas? You install it on your HD gun. Looks pretty cool and was super easy to install.

Still just a basic 870 Express Tactical with a couple toys, but I like her.
