I recently had the opportunity to acquire a used Vang Comp 18" barrel from an online tactical supply company at half the cost of the same unit NIB. My understanding is that a department had outfitted their issue 870's a with the VC barrels a few years ago but had recently 'upgraded' to Benelli semiautos and had chosen to defray the costs of the new SG's by selling the VC barrels and reinstalling the original barrels and also selling their 870's.
Upon receiving the 'new' VC 18" barrel, which is ported, choked and with rifle sights installed (the barrel was also very nicely parked) I installed the barrel on my duty 870 and proceeded to run several rounds of both buckshot and slugs through her. I was very pleasantly suprised to find better accuracy with both 00, 000 and slugs. My shot patterns were very tight out to the 35 yds that I shot the 00 and 000 and the slugs printed very nice Minute of Man, around 4" offhand at 75 yds. As for recoil, I'm not recoil sensitive and didn't really notice much difference. Muzzle rise was noticably less though.
I am very happy with my purchase.
