To answer some questions;
The gun will do this only with 3 inch shells. Kent Faststeel was what I was shooting at the time.

I can tell you that when the second shell fails to feed into the chamber, it remains in the magazine
Resting on right side finger or shell stop.

I have had two other express 870’s and neither of them ever failed to feed 3 inch shells. But I gave those to my sons.

When this gun was new it didn’t eject fired shells until I removed a very long and sharp “burr” inside the ejection port.

If I could only figure out what is causing this I believe I could fix it.

Think I will test it again with some Remington drylocks just to be sure.

I have heard of 1911s being ammo finicky. I have never, absolutely never, heard of a shotgun being an ammo finicky. I can't help but wonder if there is a burr or something on the inside of the mag tube.

Especially a pump gun, since it's not relying on the ammo to cycle the action like a semi-auto. So am very curious. Especially since this seems to be a feed problem, which indicates gun parts. But why one shell would release from the feed latches and another won't..... perhaps it's a metric conversion issue. :mrgreen:

No one is realistically going to be shooting that fast in a defensive shooting; it's a waste of ammunition given a shotgun's limited capacity, and working the slide that quickly under the stress of a life-or-death confrontation is just begging for a short-stroke or some other user-induced malfunction. With a proper magazine spring and a realistic magazine capacity, an unmodified 870 can be fired as quickly as the shooter can get it back on target. With no real rate-of-fire improvement then, all this mod will do is make change-overs trickier.
These words sound like words of wisdom.
