I guess it is possible some caught a cleaning rag under the latch and bent it, or maybe even trying to remove it.i stopped staking them several years ago. The tripper group and pins will hold them in place. Also i never cycle the action without the trigger group in place. The only problem with not staking them is they will fall out like a Mossberg 500/590 when you remove the trigger group.no big deal just put the back in and hold them till you get the trigger group and pins back in.there is a tool avalanche to restake them if you so desire.
