ejector spring
ejector spring
How do you tell if your ejector spring is good or not. I have been looking for videos or pics to show me a good ejector spring compared to a bad one. If anyone had any information on this please share. I really do not want to have to replace the ejector spring if I do not have to due to the issues of the shotgun not extracting shells completely.
Re: ejector spring
Well I guess no one has any ideas about a bad ejector spring on the 870
If you still do let me know please

I responded to this question when you asked it in another thread.
Re: ejector spring
Well thanks for the information, sorry I forgot I mentioned that in another thread. I took my shotgun apart and pushed down on the spring and it barley popped back up. Also its not really setting that high up to begin with. I know that I am not short chucking it, I always count in my head and use the recoil along with the pump action to aid me in pumping the shotgun. I mainly shoot 4,6, 00 buck and slugs 1oz Remington. I do notice a difference in each shell but it still just barley ejects the shell out of the ejection port. They will even sometimes spin around inside and not extract at all. I did get the Express tactical and I bought it from a local sporting goods store. I have heard that some of the chain store firearms are rebuilds or police donations refurbished and sold new.
The coating that comes on it also sucks, I swear that if you look at my 870 wrong it will start to rust. This pack coating they have on there sucks.
I have been thinking of selling it and get me another 870 but this time from a real gun store or online at budsgunshop.com
Again thanks for the info and my rantings.
Happy 4th of July to all

The spring really doesn't stick out that far. Hopefully someone can post some images for comparison purposes, I would if I had my camera with me.12GAfun wrote:Well thanks for the information, sorry I forgot I mentioned that in another thread. Here's a couple questions, how does your gun eject unfired shells? And does ejection improve if you're firing single-shot - with nothing feeding from the magazine at the same time?
I've heard that. I've also heard that Remington uses tooling on the Express line that has already been worn out from manufacturing Wingmasters & Polices, that Remington uses cheaper steel for Expresses, that production of Expresses has been outsourced to Mexico, and that Remington switched to the internal magazine cap retention system because they're nanny-state New Yorkers who don't support "evil" high-capacity shotguns. All nonsense. Remington doesn't play that game with the 870. There's absolutely no difference between a 2014 #81209 sold at Wal-Mart, and a 2014 #81209 sold anywhere else.12GAfun wrote:I did get the Express tactical and I bought it from a local sporting goods store. Are you oiling it? Oxide finishes need to be kept oiled to work properly. I do so with my Express, and even though I've worn the finish down to bare metal in a number of places, it's handled rain, snow, and ultra-humid summer nights without a problem. The Express finish works pretty darn well if it's cared for properly, but if you live somewhere where that's just not cutting it, you may want to look into upgrading your finish.12GAfun wrote:The coating that comes on it also sucks, I swear that if you look at my 870 wrong it will start to rust. Re: ejector spring
Yes I wipe it down with rem oil when I store it in my gun cabinet. I keep it oiled before shooting then wipe down the outside and inside to get rid of the oil build up for the range. I read and wrote Remington and they recommend not oiling it at all except the trigger springs and making sure it is dry before shooting.

Re: ejector spring
So your gun's rusting in the cabinet even with a layer of oil on it?

Re: ejector spring
The barrel on my Ithaca MAG -10 Roadblocker was bare steel for two years and never had a sign of rust. Sounds like you may have a problem with high humidity.

Re: ejector spring
Discovered that is was not rust it was a unknown substance that got on my shotgun that took forever to come off, it was under my Tacstar side saddle when I took it off, it was a rust brown color at first then turned my shotgun metal white then finally after a few cleanings and wiping it down with Rem wipes it came off. All I have is the coating rubbing off on the barrel and other areas from use. Thanks for all the replies.
