Does anyone have them on their vent ribbed 870's? Is it good or not? I only have now the factory bead and i was wondering if it would add any advantage on long range slug shooting? I can hit my targets but now i need to aim a bit to the left so i was thingking if hiviz front and rear sight would help with the problem. Of course shotgun isn't the most accurate weapon at 100 yards.

This one should fit 870. Some say that hiviz frame is too high, any opinions?

You didn't specify which model 870 you have but for shooting slugs at 100yds you really should go for a red dot sight, RDS. A Burris Speed Bead

would be the best option if you don't have or don't want to install a picatinny rail. It will co-witness your existing sights and give you fantastic accuracy. If you have or want a picatinny rail the options for a RDS are endlless. Personally I use an Aiimpoint T-1 which I highly recommend. However it doesn't co-witness on a shotgun unless you want to have AR style sights which I think look out of place. It has a Quick Release lever though which removes it in a second and I'm back to my ghost ring. Only reason to go hi-viz is for night shooting, but a RDS will still function well in low light conditions, and then I would go tritium not fiber optic because they are able to take more abuse.
Meprolight make two options for the 870 but there are plenty of other options available.

Re: HiViz sights
You're welcome but don't you mean 870 12 gauge express? With 20 inch or 22 inch barrel? BTW if your 870 is shooting to the right (having to aim left) there is probabaly a problem with your technique or the barrel is out of true or maybe it's the slugs you are using. I would have expected the problem to be shooting low. At 100 yards with a 2 3/4 shell your ballistic drop could be around 4-6 inches and could be double that at 125 yards. Depending on which slugs you are using and their rated velocity (fps) which is dependant on the amount of charge they have. Obviously the longer the barrel the less drop will occur. Winchester's website has some good info on this.

Yes thats right 870 xprs 12 gauge 26" barrel. I think it's most probably my technique and i just have to practice by trial and error. I was thinking if sights would help me with the aiming technique. I'm using now the smallest slugs because they are the cheapest.
sellier & bellot 2 5/8(?)(67,5mm) 432 grain slugs.

Re: HiViz sights
tnaka, you have much better eyes than me if you can hit a target consistently at 100+yds using a smoothbore slug with just a bead sight, respect! However a decent red-dot or similar will deninitely improve your accuracy and consistency. The Sellier and Bellot slugs are rated at 1350 fps which is good considering the length of your 870. Try something around 1600 fps and see how they work for you, but get a decent sight. You won't be disappointed.

I Have installed a HiViz Remington ETA Front and Rear Sight Set (, bought it at Amazon, it works nicely but i haven´t tried it at long range.
