Sounds like you're talking about an 870 Super Slug. I'd get one in a heartbeat, but I hate the colours Rem have put on the stock and foregrip. Anyone know how the colours could be changed? Cerakote? Or is there a decent aftermarket setup for this baby in FDE or less preferably black?Synchronizor wrote:I'll tell you right now that shooting that gun with that stock would be horrific. Just doing the rough napkin math with projectile mass, muzzle velocity, and firearm weight; a high-velocity 12ga slug out of a 7.5-lb shotgun is going to produce roughly the same recoil as a typical 647-grain .50 BMG bullet out of an uncompensated 30-lb rifle!
I plan on putting together a long-range slug build for my 870 someday, but I'll be skipping the tacti-cool AR-style stock in favor of a real semi-grip or thumbhole shotgun stock with a proper cheekrest and a nice thick recoil pad. I may even stick weights in the stock.

Re: Modifying my tactical 870
Actually, since my 870 is a multi-role gun, I'd much rather use a slug barrel with a cantilever scope mount. That way, the barrel doesn't have to be pinned to the receiver, and the scope will stay connected to and aligned with the barrel even when it's not on the gun.Ace of Spades wrote:Sounds like you're talking about an 870 Super Slug.

Remington offers that ShurShot furniture in other colors & patterns, including basic black. I don't think there's a plain FDE version, but you could always paint it, or just swap on whatever other 12ga 870 furniture you prefer.

Thanks for the info. I could live with the black furniture no problem. I just found out to change the furniture it's a major pain because the barrell is riveted and that's not something I'd like to do with a brand new gun. However the results are great http://imgur.com/a/0srUD

Re: Modifying my tactical 870
The Super Slug's barrel isn't riveted, it's pinned with a small screw. Once you remove that screw, the gun comes apart like any other 870. This would add maybe 5-10 seconds to disassembly and assembly, hardly what you would call "a major pain".Ace of Spades wrote:Thanks for the info. I could live with the black furniture no problem. Thanks so very much for clarifying everything for me. Looks like I'll get a black Super Slug and take it from there. Highly appreciated.Synchronizor wrote:The Super Slug's barrel isn't riveted, it's pinned with a small screw. Once you remove that screw, the gun comes apart like any other 870. Re: Modifying my tactical 870
To clarify, Remington offers the ShurShot stocks & fore-ends in different colors & patterns, but as far as I'm aware, the 870 Super Slug (#82101) itself only comes with the overmolded Mossy Oak Treestand-patterned stock & fore-end shown in the picture. It certainly wouldn't hurt to ask if it can be exchanged for a different set when you're ordering, but if you're set on a different color or pattern, you may end up having to purchase it separately.
