Hi y'all
I have a Rem 870 tac express and want to switch to longer barrel for hunting birds. Is it possible?

Re: Switching barrel
As long as it's not one of the Express Tacticals with the single-piece 6-round magazine tubes, any standard barrel of the same gauge will interchange.
Switching barrel
Crap........ I guess can't do.

No need to be so negative about it. Its just a reason to go out and buy another 870.pilot1695 wrote:Crap........ I guess can't do.

Re: Switching barrel
What about putting on a barrel from a NEF pardner pump? I know It'll fit as long as the ring is in the right place.

Re: Switching barrel
Pardner Pumps use 5-round magazine tubes. The long-mag Express Tactical 870s have 6-round tubes.

Re: Switching barrel
Well that wont work than. You could put a 4+1 barrel on that gun however, you would have to make a sleeve to go over the extra tube and tighten the nut against that.

Re: Switching barrel
That could work if you're willing to put in the time, money, and effort to do it properly, but there are some issues with that concept that I went over in another thread. These long-mag Express Tacticals are pretty much single-purpose defensive/combat guns. If you really want to get into hunting, you'd probably be better off buying a second 870 with a standard magazine tube, or selling/trading your current gun and setting yourself up with a standard 870 and multiple barrels.
Re: Switching barrel
OP I have a mint 1991 870 express magnum 20 gauge with a 28" ribbed barrel I would be interested in trading you for your Tactical express.
