shell latch problems

Post by jlfrem007 »

okay so i had my gun apart today because it had some problems with extraction and it needed a good cleaning anyways. i got it all apart and cleaned it and everything but i had some problems getting the bolt and bolt carrier back in. i know you have to put it in the action bars and then depress the shell latch to get them to slide in properly but i couldn't get this, and then i somehow managed to pop my right shell latch out. how do i fix this and is there some sort of trick to getting the bolt and carrier back in??
thanks

The shell latches are staked in place. One on my old wingmaster is kinda loose too. This is really only a problem when the trigger group is removed. With the trigger group installed the pins keep the latches in place. I wouldn't say there is any trick to getting the bolt back in. Just have to make sure it all is aligned properly and depress the latches one side at a time to slide it all back in to the reciever. I've got to where I could do it with my eyes shut now lol. I don't remember which latch must be pressed first. I normally just try them both until it goes back a little and then the other to get it the rest of the way in the reciever. Every now and then the bolt and slide will try to jump off the action bars.

Instead of holding it by the handguard, I hold the bolt, slide, and action bars all together. Sometimes the action bars like to spread a bit making everything misalign. Keep playing with it and you will get it. Also watching some YouTube videos may help.

Like Ponycarman said, the shell latches have the be held down in a certain sequence to slide the action bars back in. YouTube was giving me trouble yesterday (big surprise), but it's working now, so here's a video showing the proper sequence.
