Whats up fellas?? My wife bought me a new 870 Express 3" for Christmas (I had to call her to let her know) I go all over the place on firearms.... From f class rifles and 1911s to Ruger Blackhawks and what ever else I can long for in between. Needless to say I'm all over my 870 right now. I'd like to find an adjustable stock for it and a 18.5 inch barrel. I found a 18.5 at Midway USA for $109.99 that I'm gonna order tomorrow, but I'm really having a hard time finding a stock I like. I can't break the Bank but don't exactly want some piece of junk either. Ha (Imagine that) I enjoy shooting trap at my gun club but also want to use my 870 for bumps in the night. Does anyone have any thoughts on these? Thanks for the heads up!!!

Welcome to the forum.
From what I understand, good-quality AR-style adjustable stock setups aren't cheap. Is there a reason you want an adjustable LoP instead of a simpler fixed stock?

I wanted the adj. lop so when I take my 12 year old son Turkey hunting we could adj it to fit him. After looking through 29 pages of member pics lol I think I like the look of the 12' lop from hogue. I think they look more robust!! So I'm leaning more towards it. I need to shoulder some before I buy. I'm all for looking cool, but if it doesn't feel right or hold up, I don't want it. I do want the shorter barrel for the house and then just swap them out when ever I wanna shoot trap or hunt.

Just to give you more to think about, have you looked at the Akita stock from ATI? It's a more traditional semi-grip stock with a proper recoil pad, so it should be more comfortable than a low-end AR-style setup, but it has an easily-adjustable LoP and a less-easily-adjustable (you need a screwdriver) cheek pad. I haven't had any personal experience with it, but I've read some favorable reviews, and the concept seems like a solid one. The grip looks a little longer and deeper than the stocks I prefer, but I know some people like that.
I agree trying to shop for stocks on the internet sucks. It's so hard to tell whether something will fit you or not without being able to try it out.

Thanks for the heads up!! Yes shopping online sucks. I cant believe how many different accessories are available for the 870. I've enjoyed looking at all of the different configurations under the member pics. Definitely some cool options out there, so many that I might just have to buy another one. I paid $209 for this one when it was on sale in Dec, if they have it again at that price, I might have explaining to do to the wife. Thanks again for getting back with me. I appreciate it! Ty

Hah, I was saying the same exact thing when I watched it. You'd think someone working for a firearm accessory company would know to tell the kid to lean into it. Oh well, I'm sure I looked as bad or worse the first time I pulled the trigger on my dad's old Ithaca. At least the kid in the video had a shorter stock and a recoil pad; I was shooting with an adult stock and no pad, just a balled-up rag under my coat.TyStick77 wrote:On another point. I was wanting to do the same thing several years ago and ended up buying ATI's MRW4100 AR style stock. It didn't work out for me. The stock had too little drop, putting my eyes way over the rib of the barrel. It would have been OK for Remington's rifle sighted barrels or a higher profile optic, but I wanted to use it for my 21" ribbed turkey barrel. ATI was generous enough to send me wedged shaped shims which help lower the stock, but the shims wanted to pop out when the stock bolt was torqued. I also decided that the pistol grip on a shotgun was not for me.
Since I have an older birch express, I ended picking up a factory take-off at a gun show and cutting it down to the same LOP as my 20 gauge youth. I deepened the screw holes before chopping it so that only the bottom of the rubber butt-pad needed trimming. A belt sander, some care, and little tape on the wood surface help make my 12 into a twin of my 20. My basement did smell of burnt rubber for a while though.

I'm guessing that 21' barrel is working out for ya or you wouldn't have it on your gun..... I was wondering if a 20" would be too short to shoot Turkeys with? If its not, my Son would be able to hold it better than the 28" that's on it right now and I wouldn't have to change it back and forth as much. I could just use the 20" for the house and the 28" for Trap. Originally I was going to get a 18.5 for the house but if a 20" would work it would be perfect. An inch and a 1/2 isn't that big of a difference unless, well you know. lol

Synch. The first Shotgun I ever fired was a Ithaca 20g side x side. My Dads also... It was my favorite gun growing up and sits proudly in my gun case now!! Love it. You know whats great about guns???? Having someone mention one and you instantly flash back to the first time you ever shot one or fell in love with one!!! Thanks for that.
