i wana know what is the best can of gun cleaner/lube/protector. i love the gunslick solvent (aerosol can with plastic tube, comes out like whipped cream wait 20 mins and most rust and gun pouder is off)
but i care about keeping my guns mint because i expect alot from my 870 so it should expect the best from me. go ahead fellas, start fighting over which is best and why!

No fighting from me. I know what I use probably isn't the "best" but it works for me. I use hoppes number 9 to clean because I like the smell . For oil I use atf, and I've been using superlube grease here lately for some stuff and it has been working great. Also been using the cleaner/lube that came in my otis cleaning kits and it works just fine too.

Hoppe's #9 and Rem Oil. Inexpensive, available and works.

I also use Hoppe's cleaning products and Rem Oil for lubrication/corrosion protection, for the same reasons. Both are easy to find, inexpensive, and there's no BS marketing like so many other products.EdwardE wrote:Hoppe's #9 and Rem Oil. Inexpensive, available and works.
I'm sure there are products that out-perform these - I know for a fact that Rem Oil isn't the greatest lube on the market, but it's more than adequate for an 870. Over-lubing an 870 can collect powder residue and actually increase wear, so I like that Rem Oil is a light oil that's designed to dry off. I also like that it's available in several convenient forms - wipes, sprays, and so on. Individually-packaged Rem Oil wipes are great to throw in a pocket or range bag for a timely wipe-down in the field. My Express sees conditions a lot of Marine Magnum owners don't subject their guns to, with no rust problems thanks to these wipes.
I also use Permatex Anti-Seize thread paste for threaded fasteners and choke tubes. I've used this stuff to build high-end casting equipment that sees harsher conditions than most firearm components, so I know it's quality product. It's also dead cheap. For about $5, you can get a tube that'll last years, if not decades.
