Sureshot stock
Sureshot stock
I'm installing a sureshot stock on my 870 for Turkey hunting. It looks like it will fit better if I install it without the Stock Bearing Plate (part 59). Is that recommended or not?

Re: Sureshot stock
Bearing plates are used with wood stocks to distribute pressure evenly over the end. This helps prevent stresses and deformation that could encourage cracking and splitting along the grain. Synthetic stocks made from harder composites or isotropic polymers don't need this reinforcing plate. If you're installing a synthetic stock, and the raised bit that fits into the rear of the receiver is thick enough to seat properly without the bearing plate, go ahead and leave the plate out.

Thanks. Job is done. I can't wait for April 25!
BTW I really appreciate all your videos. They were actually a big reason why I bought an 870. They really can't be beat for versatility and value.

Cool to hear. Unless you want something specific to other models (bottom-ejection, tang safety, dual action mode, etc.), an 870 is a great choice. There are other, less-expensive shotguns that'll go "bang" reliably enough; but few shotguns in any price range can match the inherent simplicity and durability of an 870, and none (as far as I'm aware) are as flexible and customizable.
