Folks.
Here is my first 870 project. Specs after the pics
This was an acquirement of parts over a couple months.
- Found a dude selling an old school wingmaster bolt/receiver. Judging from the mad-slick action of my shooting chum's old wingmaster, I jumped on that right away.
- A year earlier another old friend of mind dropped off a set of wood from his old 870 after he went with the new magpul koolaid.
- Found a new manufacture 14'' cylinder bore barrel from SFRC in Ontario made by North Eastern Arms. The finish is nice, however the chamber and bore are rather rough. Chamber downright sucks, but with only 100rnds through the gun is hasn't jammed a shell in there yet.
- I drilled/tapped the receiver and installed scattergun tech rear ghost ring, and using the supplied epoxy, elbow grease and careful fitting, I got the front sight secured. Time will tell how it will stand up.
- Lots of S&J hardware goodies in her. hi-vis magazine follower, oversize safety button, +1 magazine extension and spring, DSC, and right hand sling plate.
- Since it was an old gun, I went ahead and replaced the extractor and extractor spring. I had a few extra from work.
- As per an old gun (most dudes I know haven't the slightest clue about cleaning a firearm) the trigger group was full of dried up old grease, grit, carbon, dirt, probably some swamp mud etc. I stripped it apart, polished the parts that required it, fresh oil, and she is nice and slick again.
- Limbsaver recoil pad.
- Have been unable to find a new shell lifter with the relief cuts in 'er
I was going for the classic riot gun look without all the extra jazz accompanying all the new age tacticool jazz. This will accompany me on ATV trips, family campouts, hell, Ill even try to take some birds with it.
Enjoy.

I like that setup, Mac. Simple, solid, and idiot-proof (though I am curious to see how well that epoxied front sight stands up). Got to love 870s for being so simple and well-designed that you can just toss together a bunch of random parts and have a gun that's just as functional and reliable as any factory-assembled one.
Be aware that you won't have the full flex-tab fix without a new-style breech bolt and slide assembly. The gun will function fine if you mix old and new parts, but the anti-jam feature needs all three updated parts to work properly. I'm not sure if you have old- or new-style versions of the breech bolt or slide assembly, but they look old-style from what little I can see in the pictures. If you want, I can help you identify them with more surety.
Remington sells them through their parts department, but I'm not sure if they can ship directly to Canada. You may have to order through a 3rd party. You can also find them used online.Mac wrote:- Have been unable to find a new shell lifter with the relief cuts in 'er

Happy to have my 870 back from the factory, it shoots flawlessly now, as it should have straight from the factory. I got an extension tube, and magpul stock and forend, they are very easy to install.

Glad you got your rig back Satchmo. Happy shooting.

Thanks! I was very happy with the performance, and I've shot a good 250 rounds through it so far and only had one that got stuck, it wasn't like before and a quick jerk extracted it, I blame that one on low quality ammo, but 1 in 250 is better than 1/10Zebra62 wrote:Glad you got your rig back Satchmo. Looks bad ass, yOGi420. What did you use to fill it with and how did you clean off the excess? I want to do mine in red, but I don't have anything here that works right. Too much time is spent trying to clean off the extra and then the fill comes out.
