I bought it brand new, and first shot, it locked up. It continued to lock up making it a pain to cycle. I took it to a trusted remington dealer (with an indoor range) and he ran dozens of rounds through it, both my ammo (remington gun club) and several other brands and quality of ammo and was able to consistently reproduce the malfunction. The chamber is nice and polished, so it isn't a burr and cheap ammo causing the malfunction. Strangely, the malfunction mainly occurs when there is 4 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber.EdwardE wrote:Mr. Satchmo, why is your 870 back at Remington?

Re: Pictures of your Remington 870 Shotgun
Sorry to hear that. It's a bummer when something brand new and out of the box isn't working the way it should. I hope you get it back quickly and working properly. Be sure and post what they found that was causing the problem when you get it back.

Thanks! I can't wait to get it back, it's been about a month now, it sucks when it's brand new, and that it malfunctioned on the first shot. I'm hoping remington makes it right!EdwardE wrote:Sorry to hear that. It's a bummer when something brand new and out of the box isn't working the way it should. Re: Pictures of your Remington 870 Shotgun
Picked up my express tactical a couple weeks ago and added the Blackhawk adjustable stock w/pistol grip and a Truglo red/green dot scope. I need a range day so I can test out the scope which I just put on today. Also, does anyone here know exactly how to mod the Blackhawk forend to fit? The arms don't quite fit into it right. :/

yOGi420™, nice shotgun! Please tell us about results of the test of the Truglo scope.
I didn't have any problems with Blackhawk forend, not sure about why it doesn't fit.

Express Tactical 870s use the same fore-end tube assembly as all other 12ga 870s except for the Marine Magnum and SuperMag models. The fore-end should fit without issue. What exactly is the problem you're having?yOGi420™ wrote:Also, does anyone here know exactly how to mod the Blackhawk forend to fit? The arms don't quite fit into it right.

The arms don't quite seat into it correctly. I'll take a pic of it and you can see where the arms have scratched it.

Re: Pictures of your Remington 870 Shotgun
When you're dealing with a gun that has as much aftermarket support as the 870, you'll inevitably get some not-so-impressive add-ons mixed in with the good stuff. Glad you were able to get it to work though, and we appreciate hearing about the problem and solution.
Personally, I would have just stuck with the SpeedFeed LE fore-end the gun came with. It's the same fore-end Remington puts on their police & military 870s, and it's a real solid piece of kit. My 870 normally wears walnut, but when I'm dressing it for harsh conditions I use one of these.
