870 Wingmaster - Possible Stainless Steel?

I just acquired an 870 Wingmaster Police type shotgun. It has a matte silver finish, unlike the nickle finish on the marine model.
The Serial number begins with a "T" and ends with a "V".
Has an 18" Cyl barrel with a bead sight
It was issued to a police dept
What options could this finish be?

It might be chrome or nickel plating, or someone could have simply stripped off the original bluing and left the metal bare. As far as I know, Remington has never made stainless steel 870s.

Did a google search, some thought they may have existed
I finally got it home and tore it down, appears to have been hard chromed
Whoever did it at the time did a good job
Now deciding what to do with it, strip it and what finish to replace

Some folks will call anything with a shiny white/gray metallic finish stainless. Remington does use some stainless parts in the 870, but the barrel, receiver, magazine tube, and other major items are proper alloy steel.

If the entire gun's been chromed, I'd be interested to see some images as well.
