New 870 Christmas present. Kinda hard to find 870

Post by 3ky »

My son wanted a shotgun for Christmas so I went looking and found this new in the box 870 at my local gun shop. I never seen a 870 in this gauge. When I got it home and looked it up online they aren't making these right now, plus I got it reasonable. What do you think and anyone have one of these? How do they shoot? Picture shows one of my 870s to show the size difference. Sorry one is blurry.

What do you think of the little 870? My son will love it!

Nice score, 3ky. Not too many of those around.

Thanks everyone. I never seen one before. Remington still makes a 870 410 Wingmaster but not Express. I haven't seen a Wingmaster 410 but would like too. 410 and 16 gage are hard to find.

I saw this Express and thought it would make a nice Shotgun for my son to plink with so I bought it for Christmas. He is 8 so shouldn't be hard on his shoulder. This one will shoot 3 inch shells. Sadly 410 isn't as cheap as 12.

Anyone have a 410 I like to see a picture.

Thanks,
Michael

I think both of you are lucky. Dad for finding it and Son for getting it. I have been a huge fan of .410 for many years. My dad gave me an old Mossberg 410 Bolt action when I was 9 years old and I still have it and hunt with it. BUT I have been considering buying a pump .410 for hunting Ptarmigan up here in Alaska. They are a fast bird and a follow up shot would be much quicker with a Pump. Thanks for the post cause now my hunt is on. I like the looks of that firearm!!!

My grandfather had a Stevens 410 bolt action. He taught me how to shoot it and I used it rabbit hunting and plinking. Soft on the shoulder and light when packing.

These 870 are built on the small frame receiver which the new 20 and 28 gage share. Like the 410 I don't think the 28 gage is made in the Express but you still can get the 20 gage. I paid 423 for this 410 which I didn't think was too bad. After the holidays I'll see if I can get a new Wingmaster. Not sure what they run new. The older ones are collectors items. I never seen an older Wingmaster 410 in real life. This Express is the only 410 gage 870 I ever seen. I have seen the 20 and a few 28 gage Express.

I bet Alaska is pretty! I'm from Kentucky which is nice.

Thanks,
Michael

Dog gone you Michael, I've been thinking about a 870/.410 ever since I saw your post this morning. Man my wife is going to skin me!!! Even with the express variant man that is a nice looking shotgun. The wood furniture is beautiful to say the least. Congrats again on a GREAT find. Oh and I am originally from Louisiana, therefore that might explain the love of the shotgun.

LOL Thanks! Wood is nice. I hope you get one! Make you a good shotgun. I may try to find a Wingmaster 410 for myself later on. I have 2 Wingmasters in 12 gauge. One is a 76 magnum the other a 71 police shotgun. I like to have a few smaller gauges that's easy going on the shoulder.

I'll give a range report after Christmas!

I'm originally from Colfax. Grandparents lived on Darbonne where I shot my first shotgun.

Thanks again,

Michael
