Does painting mag tube interfear with function

Post by mkrauss »

I am prepping my 870 for new duracoat finish. I just finished using it on a winchester 94 so I know how it works. I am a 1 month old 870 guy. I jumped in with both feet. I am hooked. Using the websites info I have done it up right I think. My question is when painting the reciever and mag tube. Wouldnt painting the mag tube interfear with the movement of the forend. I have checked out a bunch of pictures and it looks like everyone paints it. Just looking for some input.thanks.

Go ahead and paint it, it's gonna be ok. Here is my post: Painting Remington 870 Shotgun. I recommend using special paint on magazine tube and bolt: KG Gear Kote (Dry Film Lubricant) it made my action as smooth as possible.

I'd love to see photos of the process and ready result.

I reviewe the 870 painting info. would be nice to have all the proper equipment. I have already purchased duracoat tactical dark earth. I put all the rest of my funds into upgrades etc. I will have to give it a go. If it doesnt work well I will fix at a later time. How does the butt on the sga stock compare to a limbsaver or remington cell. is it worth replacing. I will post pics I am geeked about it. I tried but had a problem with the pic. size. havnt figured it out yet. Thanks mike.

The fore-end tube is not a super-tight fit on the magazine tube, so you should be fine, especially if you do the proper surface prep first.

I have a Remington SuperCell pad for one of my stocks, and I love it. Magpul offers an adapter that will let you install a SuperCell pad on their SGA stock.

What do you think is better the super cell or limbsaver. How would they compare to the one that comes with the sga. p.s. I just painted the gun 5 mins ago I cant wait to put her back together. thanks.

Of those three pads, I've only had trigger time with the SuperCell, so I can't really make a fair comparison on which is most comfortable. But I can say that the SuperCell pad works brilliantly, and I have trouble imagining that any other pad could do a better job.

Recoil attenuation aside, while many other pads have rubbery or gummy materials or textures that hang up on clothing, the SuperCell has a smooth, non-grabbing surface coating that slides over fabric. The SuperCell also wins points for being significantly less expensive than most other pre-fit recoil pads. If you're interested (and have a chunk of free time), I wrote a fairly extensive piece on the SuperCell pad and recoil in general.

I did read your piece already. It was very informative. When I found this site I think I read every article, watched all the how to videos, and went through most of the forums. By the end of the week I had purchased every improvement that the people on this site recommend. My paint on my gun is drying as I type.I will see how the stock recoil pad does and I f I dont like it I will get a supercell. Thanks for your info. Thanks also for all the input that you seem to give to this site. thx mike
