Serial Numbers
I currently am a new member to the forum community. Although the method of finding out when a gun was made from this site is good,it only works if you have the correct barrel that came with the gun. It does not help me in my situation and am asking for some knowledgable help. What other method of look-up is there for the serial numbers? frustated!

Re: Serial Numbers
Without access to Remington's private database, you can only get a general idea from the serial number. The one- or two-letter prefix on the serial number indicates a date range. Here are the prefixes I know of, and the dates they started being used:
(no letter) - 1950
S - 1968
T - 1974
V - 1978
W - 1984
X - 1990
A - 1991
B - 1994
C - 1997
D - 2001
AB - 2005
RS - 2010 or 2011 (quite possibly earlier)
If you want an exact date, just call or email Remington and have them look up your serial number.
