Broken Firing Pin Today

Post by 4Islander »

I have had 870's for many years & I have seen other people break firing pins but never had one go myself until today.

Got back home this evening & replaced it, also had to re-stake the left side shell latch at the same time as it had come loose.

Good as new again now :D

Guess that Shell- Latch Staker @ Brownell's is a good tool to put on the "to buy" list.

Thanks,

Keep meaning to get around to buying that staking tool! They pretty easy to use?

And thanks for the reminder to have a spare firing pin in the house - I think of the 870 as so rugged, easy to forget something that simple can turn your 870 into a wooden/metal club!

I was lucky enough to buy a few firing pins at the right price a few years ago, I was begining to think I had wasted money buying them but was very pleased that I had having now broken one, it would be a real nuisance not having the gun while waiting for a replacement which could take ages to arrive from overseas.

Also the staking tool is very useful, the latches do come loose on many guns & I have used this tool on a few of my mates guns over the years, well worth having some proper tools if you intend keeping your Remington long term.

This gun will now be back in action on the ranges at Bisley tomorrow. :D

Thanks for sharing this! I've never seen a broken firing pin, but heard that this happens!
