People either seem to love or hate that stock. Based on everything I've heard (and be aware I have no personal experience with it), it seems like it works well enough, but requires a specific technique to avoid getting punched with every shot. Personally, I like to keep my 870 simple, and I feel that proper shooting techniques and a good recoil pad make a 12ga perfectly controllable for most shooters. But there are plenty of people who have found that the stock works really well for them and their needs, and they're not all armchair commandos who only take their pimped-out guns to the range a couple times a year. So while I usually try to discourage people from slapping on a recoil-reducing stock after one discouraging experience with bad technique and heavy magnum loads, I don't think the concept is completely without merit or applicability.

If you want to upgrade that bead, it shouldn't be a big deal to cut off or drill out the pressed-in bead, and tap the hole. I think the standard thread size for this is 6-48, but some aftermarket beads may be different.

There have been rumors about other barrels for the 6+1 receivers ever since they were introduced. I've yet to see anything but noncommittal remarks from Remington. In a perfect world, I'd like to see these long-mag 870s stay where they are, as simplified, dedicated combat guns, with 18-20" combat barrels. Unfortunately, there will always be cases where the Wal-Mart employee who got pulled over from the electronics counter won't know to warn an inexperienced shooter that they're buying a single-purpose variant. So, I think it would be nice for Remington to make one or two sporting barrels available for the 6+1 receivers. A 26" RemChoke vent-rib barrel would probably cover pretty much anything that couldn't be done with tactical/combat barrels and sights.

XS sells a big dot front blade sight that is meant to snap over the bead with some locktite to insure it stays on. I think others sell similar front sights.
