870 order # 81100 Questions

My 870 was mfg in Mar 07 and I just recently purchased it New. Does anyone know if there have been any upgrades, from Remington, that I might benefit from incorporating into my new gun. Also, with this perticular model (81100) can the barrel be switched out to a longer one with chokes for hunting?

The only thing I can think of would be the safety. For a little while. Remington equipped some 870s with an ISS safety that could be locked in the safe position with a special key.

If your gun has one of those, you should change it out for a standard safety button. Less to go wrong, and a gun safe or other separate gun lock does the job better.

You shouldn't have any issues swapping the barrel out for a hunting one. The 12ga 870s have some exceptions, but all small-frame 20ga barrels should be interchangeable, to the best of my knowledge.
