Replacing the bead .

Post by flyboyaviator »

Just got my new 870 Police Magnum, it came with a bead, not real crazy with it, and want to replace with a ghost ring, any problem doing it? any ideas what type of ghos rings sights; looks like the bead is not screwed in to the barrell, may be pressed, any advise would be greatley appreciated

There are a lot of different options for ghost ring sights. If you want something better than a cheap clamp-on piece of junk, you'll probably need to have your existing front sight replaced, and have a rear sight brazed to the barrel, or installed on your receiver. This is probably going to be a gunsmith job.

I have a set coming next week from a manufacturer new to the industry for me to review. I will have it up as soon as i can. The front sight will clamp right over your bead and can also support a rail. You will still need to tap your receiver but you will also have a rail space for optics. Check them out and keep an eye out for the review...ImageImageImageImage
Also has a thread in peep sight for more precise shots. Image

That looks pretty interesting, though I wonder how well it would hold its zero after being removed each time the gun is taken apart. At least they're supposedly working on a version of the front sight that fits into a standard 870 front rifle sight base (but oddly, no mention of a rear sight for the rear ramp). I'm looking forward to the review on that.

Does the rear sight/rail attach using the same hole spacing as the factory 870 top rails?

I'm also very curious to see how well the Zero holds, I will keep you guys informed on that. They also have a "single" front sight incase you don't have the extension. The pattern question didn't even cross my mind. I guess I was assuming it would not make sense for a manufacturer to develop their own, when everyone else uses a set standard pattern. I'm assuming the it's the same, I haven't tapped my receiver yet nor have I received the products. It should all happen this week assuming my presumption is correct because I wouldn't tap a proprietary hole pattern in my receiver to do a T&E w/review.

Lots of new ideas out there got sure. For many years I have used Scattergun Technologies ghost ring sight systems and have them on 7 870's as of this date. Never a problem experienced and they are for the most part almost indestructible. Can be tuned without issue for precise slug placement as well. They have served me quite well and I like the very business like look of them as well. Interested in your findings regarding the other sight system.
