Knoxx SpecOps and Knoxx NRS Stocks

Knoxx SpecOps and Knoxx NRS Stocks are very popular. Which one do you use? What do you think about it?

My father has one for the recoil reduction, due to his bad shoulder from the Air Force. Using the standard wooden stock was too much for it even with a Limbsaver pad. For a few years he'd given up on hunting until he saw an advertisement for it. Went out and got it that day and has had a blast ever since. It really does as it says and takes away a large portion of the "bite" some of us feel using the 12 gauge. He can now go through just about as many boxes as he wants at any time. As far as the recoil reduction goes, it's a great product. The ergonomics however are all personal. I hate the way it feels, he loves it. So on that matter to each his own. Would highly recommend it, but would suggest you pick one up and feel it out, if possible.

Sharkie, what about cheekslap? Have you or your father experienced it using the Knoxx stock? I had it several times but then everything was ok. I have heard a lot of complaints about cheekslap.

Had forgotten about that aspect. Yes, cheek slap had been an issue for a while. Though it's quite easy to remedy. We took an old piece of foam from a well worn cushion and folded it a few times, placed it on the stock at about where he rests his cheek and wrapped it to keep it in place. We'd tried it with a few socks as well. So long as you have something soft compacted between you and the stock it eliminates the problem without getting in the way of the bead. Or one could get the Powerpak all the same. It's an easy fix just about anyone can overcome.

Today I finally got to try out my need Knoxx and Power Pak.

I really have no complaints - but then again, I have virtually zero points of reference. So, coming from a newbie, it worked fine for me. Played with the LOP adjustment and found out that too short is just as uncomfortable as too long.

I do wonder if that my pumping action, as Vitaly has instructed on his blog, may have been adversely affected by the recoil reduction action. Maybe I need to be more forceful and complete with the cycling action to compensate for the travel in the receiver.

Overall, I see no problems that can't be remedied with proper training. Hey, wait a minute, that can be said for everything!

I have the NRS on both of my 870's, as for recoil I have no problem with fast follow up shots,

I had the SpecOps with the power pack.. Sold it a couple months ago.. and put a Speed Feed I on it... the pistol grip got in the way of it fitting in the rack in the car and we shoot reduced recoil rounds anyways. This was the second pistol grip stock I had on it and the was nice but it really made it bulkier feeling. It took away from the shotgun being more "streamlined" like a regular stock. Plus for me switching sides from left shoulder to right shoulder the side saddle got in the way.. the Speed Feed I.. lets me retain rounds still and shoot from either side...

Day after trying out the Knoxx Recoil Stock - damn, my jaw hurts!

Could be bad technique, but my jaw feels like it was punched repeatedly. Unfortunately, the next local 870 training sessions aren't until next November.

So the Power Pak didn't eliminate the cheek slap factor.... Kind of interesting considering that was part of the reason they made it.

IMO the only benefit I noticed to the "high" cheek piece was if I was running an optic. It was perfect for my eotech but it was waaayyy to high to get a proper "sight picture" with a bead.
