Anyone interested in snap caps?
I keep reading threads about problematic snap caps. If enough people are interested ill load up a bunch of high-brass dummy loads. It will be a complete new shell with small shot of 1 1/8 ounce and wad except it will have a spent primer and something in place of the powder. Lets say 10 for $20 shipped in US. Ill need atleast 10 people to commit to make it worth my while.
Re: Anyone interested in snap caps?
I think the main problem is longevity. The rims take a beating whether they are plastic, aluminum or brass.

I'd be in for that if you move forward with it, sounds good.

I'm interested also its just that stammer is right. Regular cases don't hold up great time. We all have those HD shells around that we've loaded and unloaded so many times now they hardly cycle. LoL
Re: Anyone interested in snap caps?
Yeah true they wont last forever. Another thing i can do (at some additional cost) is install erasers in place of the spent primers for those concerned with firing pin damage.

Re: Anyone interested in snap caps?
I've been using them for years and buy them by the 25 round box(Remington)
Recently picked up four boxes as 100 usually last me a good while. I perform loading/firing drills several times a week...only replaced a firing pin once in my main "practice" Express. Never had an extractor failure as of yet either.

So Bastard, your saying you consistantly dryfire without issue or that the wear on the pin is so minimal it doesn't really make a difference? Or not that you dry fire at all, I'm misunderstanding and you just practice combat reloads, slug changeovers (without firing), etc...?
Re: Anyone interested in snap caps?
I think hes saying he dry fires constantly and has only broken one firing pin.
Ive heard these firing pins do break eventually. I havent seen it be caused specifically by dry firing but just the number of times the trigger is pulled. Firing ammo or not. Obviously dry firing yeilds lots of trigger time so it will shorten lifespan. Like i said a snap cap with firing pin buffer wont necassarily increase lifespan. Thats what ive seen atleast.

I practice live & dry fire drills quite often. Also practice loading drills with inert and live shells as well. Far much more than just combat loading drills and the like. Also work heavily on transition drills from handgun to long gun and vice versa. I'm a graduate of several shotgun only schools...many of which were advanced instruction in nature. I have replaced firing pins due to more wear than I was comfortable with trusting my life or that of my loved ones to, but have only broken one in almost 40 years. I'm no stranger to engaging combat scenarios with an 870 during training...have also used one in more than one gunfight as well. Bastard File is my forum name...not Bastard, but some may argue that also. As a side note, my parents were properly married upon my conception so that is a non issue as well:-)

BASTARD FILE,
LoL, I was just shortening your name for the simple fact that I am lazy, I hope I didn't offend you. Thanks for the knowledge. I am very interested in attending a shotgun oriented school like Thunder Ranch. Can you remember a few you completed. I am in the northeast but that doesn't necessarily matter.
