How much slimmer is the cobb forend?

How much difference is there between the older cobb style forend and the sport style wood forends? Does anyone have side by side comparisons they can post?

Actual width will vary depending on the specific fore-end, but cob-style fore-ends can have more of a round cross-section that give them a different feel even if they're just as thick at their widest point. Also, police-style fore-ends tend to be much shorter than the sporting fore-ends, so that they don't cover up a significant portion of the receiver in the rear-most position.

Of the synthetic stocks pictured...the middle photo is the one I prefer for my uses. It's what's on my early Marine Magnum as well as on one of my Express Magnum stamped receiver 870's.
