870 20 GA

Post by jaturner » Sun May 05, 2013 8:19 pm

Bought me a new Rem 870 20 ga. Been Looking at replacement stocks to buy but none are
specifically for the 20 ga. All are specified for the 12 ga. Will these work on my 20?

There are two types of 870 receivers, the full-sized receivers, and small-frame receivers. 20ga 870s have used both over the years, but I think all the newer ones use the lightweight receivers. If your serial number ends in "X" or "N", you should be able to use 12/16ga stocks. There are some aftermarket stock options for the lightweight 20/28ga and .410 870s, but your choices are more limited.

What kind of stock are you looking for? Pistol grip, standard, youth, synthetic? I built a LW 20ga for the wife a couple of years back and parts are a little harder to find. If you have a small frame 20ga then Blackhawk makes a pistolgrip adjustable AR type. Remington makes a synthetic youth model (13" LOP) and as a shameless plug I have one for sale in the ads...

Also Wilson/Scattergun tech makes a +2 extension if yours doesn't have one.

Here's a pick of the Blackhawk one.

I have an 870 20 gauge also that I purchased for my wife. I looked around for a while trying to find furniture to fit and I came up short as you have. I satisfied myself with a 5 round magaizne extension from Choate (increased total capacity to 11 with 2 3/4 shells) and called it quits on modifiying hers. She claims she likes it the way it is, so if Mama is happy, everyone is happy.

Hope you enjoy yours as much as we enjoy ours.
