Hello All:
Just joined a few minutes ago and already have a question. I have a new Remington 870 Tactical (these words are on the receiver). I'm interested in replacing the plastic follower that everyone seems to recommend with the Gg&g Follower. I like the look of them and they are my best choice that I've been able to find in stock anywhere.
Conflict arises when they warn that the follower will not work in the Remington 870 Tactical Magpul. I happen to own a Remington 870 Tactical that I've upgraded to a Magpul stock & forend that probably has nothing to do with how the magazine tube fits the receiver.
Just wondering if I'm over thinking this or did they change the configuration between the tactical and the tactial magpul. It also came with the 2 round extension which the magpul forend covers the nut nicely and smooths out the look. Thanks in advance for any help. Steve

Re: Gg&g Follower - Will it fit?
My guess would be that it isn't described as compatible with the Magpul & Blackhawk! 870 Express Tactical models because those use the plastic spring retainers that fit into bumps inside the end of the magazine tube, like other Express models without magazine extensions:

Most factory & aftermarket followers are designed with grooves in the sides to allow them to be installed in all 870s:

However, the GG&G follower does not have these grooves, so it could not be installed on any 870 with these bumps in the magazine tube, unless the bumps were removed:

If you have a standard 870 with an extension on it, the GG&G follower should work fine.

Synchronizor, thank you so much for a fast reply. I haven't figured out how to upload photos yet but I did photograph the threads after removing the 2 round extension and there are no dimples below the threads. If I understand you correctly, if I am able to drop in the new follower without the need for grooves to pass any dimples - it should work. There should be no issues when the follower reaches the other end where it mates with the receiver - all 870's are the same at that end of the magazine tubes and the stops therein?
Again, thank you. Steve

Just in case anybody is wondering. I finally got around to ordering one and it dropped right in and ran like a champ. Steve

For anyone interested, GG&G now offers a slotted version their follower specifically designed for use in dimpled 870 tubes.

To be fair, adding dimple slots would have made for more machining work and increased expense; and machining stainless steel takes significantly more time and effort than machining Delrin. Generally, folks only spring for expensive followers like the GG&G parts when they're building something with an extended magazine, so before Remington came out with the long-mag Express Tactical models, it really wouldn't have made much sense to needlessly increase the price of these followers by slotting all of them.
