LOP
LOP
Hey all hope everyone is doing great. I'm confused about the length of pull thing. Here's my problem, occasionally when firing more recoil intensive ammo the knuckle on my middle finger gets hit by the trigger guard. If I don't slide my strong hand up a little I'm pulling the trigger with my finger tip. Would an after market stock say like the Magpul help with this or is it just poor technique?

Re: LOP
Length of pull is simply the distance from the trigger to the butt of the stock. What you're talking about is the geometry of the grip itself.
My advice would be to find a gun shop in your area with a stock you're interested in, so you can go in and try it out yourself. Personal fit is a complex thing, and no one can decide what would fit you best better than yourself.
Personally, I prefer to use my fingertip to pull the trigger, as it gives me more fine control, and places the knuckle of that finger right over the safety. But yes, a stock with a different grip shape may be a better fit for your technique and the size of your hands. I've handled an 870 with the Magpul stock, and it put my trigger finger much farther forward than my traditional stocks. It was too far forward to be a good fit for me, but you might like that better.Erik wrote:Here's my problem, occasionally when firing more recoil intensive ammo the knuckle on my middle finger gets hit by the trigger guard. Re: LOP
What type of loads are causing this? that sounds like some serious recoil. For example i shoot my 12'' LOP stock with my thumb in line with the top of the stock with slugs so i dont bust myself in the nose and i still dont have this issue. My knuckle rests just grazing the trigger gaurd aswell. Are you pressing it somewhat firmly into your shoulder? If its not clay shooting are you standing with your shoulders square to the target? that will help with recoil a great deal.

I'm shooting everything I can find to see what works. I have a new synthetic w/ one piece mag tube. So far it eats everything, no extractor or ejection issues. I was using Remington 00, and Winchester PDX1 Defender (1 oz slug and three plated 00 buck pellets), and even the Hornady Zombie Max. I'm new to shotguns and I'm sure its technique. I'm working on it. Thanks for the input.
