Some of the military M9s were also issued in black. Mine has the (so I've read) newer-style hilt piece, which I actually really like.tuberaider wrote:Good eye. The M9 is also OKC, but black instead of milspec green.

That's really nice. I am not normally a fan of bayonets on shotguns but I wouldn't mine owning that blade though. If you dont mind me asking where you got yours?

Gotta agree with the Duncan Long critique of bayonets on shotguns... The M7 bayonet makes a better bayonet, the M9 makes a better survival/camp knife. Gotta love how after the Cold War ended our bayonet could be used with the scabbard to cut wire! Dontcha hate it when the [prospective enemy] "other side" has a good idea?!
The Swearingen book from the 1970s about fighting shotguns details how the Remington Model 10 "trench gun" utilized different bayonets in the Remington inventory... Including the M91 Mosin-Nagant! A 17-inch spike on the end of an 18-in. barrel sounds way too long to me, but it might be interesting to contrive such a mount and see how it looks!

My siblings actually got together and bought one for me off Ebay as a birthday present one year. You can find some fair deals there, but there are a lot of Chinese knock-offs and nonmilitary variations floating around as well.rythomas0704 wrote:That's really nice. I honestly have it more for the novelty than anything (and just because it's a nice knife that I carry on my belt almost daily) but I have heard of people putting bayonets on their guns for hunting potentially dangerous game like wild pigs.
Modern bayonets are designed to be multi-purpose blades, which is why they're not nearly as long as they were during WW1 and earlier, when they were meant to effectively turn a gun into a spear. The M9 was intended to be a good fighting/utility knife, which I really like about it.DaveC wrote:Gotta agree with the Duncan Long critique of bayonets on shotguns... Chestnut Ridge Knife Shop has the m9 bayonets, as well as the larger USMC version, in case you're interested.
