Pelican Case Foam Customization [pics]

Post by nsutherl »

I got around to cutting the foam in my Pelican 1750 this weekend. Spots cut out for the Wingmaster, 10/22, 2x10/22 mags, and my bore cleaning rod.ere's the finished product:

Here's our setup. My buddy is an Electrical Engineer at Qualcomm so he brought home the DC power supply.

What did you use for the wire?

We used this.

It was probably a little on the thin/fragile side, but we had the power supply set for constant current right at the sweet spot for that particular wire (1.1 A). We fed the foam pretty slow while cutting to avoid breaking the wire.

Really nice fit. How is the foam surface underneath?

Not really sure what you're asking, but I left the top and bottom pieces of foam alone. I saved all of the cut-out pieces in case I needed to slice them into short sections and reinsert them to create "pedestals" for the narrow parts of the gun to sit on, but I ended up just leaving it and setting the guns all the way down on the bottom piece of foam.

I've done a few cases like that, it's hard to make it look good. Great job!

Now for the rest of us I found this place that will customize inserts based on a template you provide, they can use just about any kind of foam it appears too. I have one hard case for my prized Noveske AR but was going to get several inserts cut so I can use the same case for multiple guns/configurations.
