Non-mim extractor/stainless follower issue
Non-mim extractor/stainless follower issue
All,
New here with a question. I just added a non-mim extractor and stainless follower from brownells. I NEVER had a feeding issue before the install and now every shell is getting stuck. I tried different combos of original/new parts and still had issues. I put the plastic follower and original extractor after trying the combos and now there are no issues. Has anyone ever had this problem? Any possible solutions? Thanks for the help in advance.

Re: Non-mim extractor/stainless follower issue
Where are the shells hanging up? Inside the magazine, the chamber, or somewhere else in the action?
Re: Non-mim extractor/stainless follower issue
The shell comes out of the magazine and gets caught up on the carrier as it moves the shell to the chamber pretty much halfway to the chamber. It felt like there was friction from the extractor.

GT99BLACK, could you please make a photo, that would really help to find the problem.

Yeah, I'd like to see images of that too. What it sounds like you're describing is a fail-to-feed issue these shotguns can have when trying to chamber shells that are longer or shorter than SAAMI specs, but if the problem goes away with the original parts, you must be talking about something else.GT99BLACK wrote:The shell comes out of the magazine and gets caught up on the carrier as it moves the shell to the chamber pretty much halfway to the chamber.
I've heard of people getting the wrong extractor when buying from 3rd-party vendors, such as 11-87 extractors being sold as 870 extractors. If you have the wring extractor, it may not fit the bolt quite right, affecting function. This is one reason I always buy Remington parts (especially small parts) directly from Remington. I know I'm getting the right part, and it usually costs less as well.GT99BLACK wrote:It felt like there was friction from the extractor.
You tried using your old extractor with the new follower and still had trouble? I usually prefer a high-quality polymer follower over a metal one because it's lighter weight and lower friction improve feeding a little, and properly selected polymers are more stable than metal. However, shotguns have used metal followers since the 1800s, so they do work, even though there are better materials these days.GT99BLACK wrote:I tried different combos of original/new parts and still had issues.
