REM 870 for Home Defense – Light Setup?

Post by sophiasmith »

Hi everyone, I recently bought a REM 870 and I’m setting it up mainly for home defense. I’m thinking about adding a weapon light, but I’m not sure which mounting option works best without making the shotgun too bulky or front-heavy.

For those who run a light on their REM 870, do you prefer a magazine tube mount, a dedicated forend with an integrated light, or a rail setup? I’d also like to know if the extra weight affects handling during quick target acquisition.

Any advice or personal setups would be really helpful. Thanks!

Great question for discussion, but some more info is needed. Barrel length? If you go to a shorty HD-style barrel, then there's very little mag tube remaining or barrel space for a light mount. Longer barrels can accomodate the light barrel mounted. Seems to me that most SWAT-type emergency response teams use the ~longer barrels.
