I own a Remington Model 870 "Brushmaster" 12-gauge pump action Deluxe Deer Gun chambered for 2 3/4" shells with front and rear sites. 20" barrel improved cylinder choke The marking on the barrel is CB60 (which I've learned from online look-up is manufacture date of April 2007, 1981, 1956 or 1933. The serial number on the receiver is V661959V.
Box says Packers No. 7702CB, Order No. 6960, Serial No. 661959V
Interestingly, the old box says "Brushmaster" but the gun's receiver is stamped "Wingmaster" Model 870. All other details, including serial number, on the old box matches.
Can someone help me determine if it was manufactured in 1981 or 2007? I know it is definitely not 1956 or 1933.
Its design is very similar to my 1982 Model 870 Wingmaster 26" 12-gauge barrel and my 1978 Model 870 Wingmaster 28" 20-gauge barrel.
Thanks!

Re: "Brushmaster/Wingmaster" Deer Gun Year of Manufacture Help
My guess would be 1981 if it is gloss finish and 2-3/4. Later guns are built on the 3" action.

Based on the serial number V661959V, it would be manufactured in 1981. Since Remington used the prefix system for serial numbers, the "v" stands for 1981.
Re: "Brushmaster/Wingmaster" Deer Gun Year of Manufacture Help
The CB marking corresponds to April of either 2007, 1981, 1956, or 1933 based on Remington’s barrel code chart.
Since Wingmasters were made in 1956, 1981, and 2007, and you've ruled out 1956, we’re left with 1981 or 2007.
Since your gun has the older Wingmaster styling and closely matches your 1982 and 1978 Wingmasters, it strongly suggests 1981 as the correct year.

The serial number V661959V on your Remington Model 870 suggests it was made in 2007. The barrel marking CB60 can indicate different years, but considering the serial number and your gun's design similarities to your 1982 and 1978 models, 2007 is more likely.

"v" prefix used 1978-1983, so yours would be 1981.

Re: "Brushmaster/Wingmaster" Deer Gun Year of Manufacture Help
Based on all the facts, it is very likely that your gun was manufactured in April 1981, not 2007.
Re: "Brushmaster/Wingmaster" Deer Gun Year of Manufacture Help
You own a 1982 Model 870 Wingmaster 26" and a 1978 Model 870 Wingmaster 28". If the Brushmaster is similar in design, it is most likely from that time period, i.e. 1981.

Lots of guesstimations here. From several single posters. Wonder who is, and isn't, a Bot.
"Similar in design" Methinks they are all similar, what specifically makes you think it's 1981?

It's so cool to see a Remington 870 with such a unique history and markings! You've done a lot of research on the age of the gun, but can you determine the year of manufacture based on smaller details like logos, finish, or serial numbers?
