Help with Rem 870

Post by jeffludwig »

Hello,
I am having an issue with my Remington 970. The front receiver pin won’t come out and the other side seems to be obstructed internally. I saw a video on fixing a displaced shell latch but in order to do that you must have the front pin out of the gun. As I stated I cannot remove the pin.\
Any advice? Thanks in advance!

Please try this method. Sometimes, the pin might be corroded or stuck due to dirt or debris. Applying a penetrating oil like WD-40 or a similar product around the battery can help loosen it. Allow it to sit for a while, then try gently tapping the pin with a soft mallet.

Soak it with some Kroil, then brace the receiver on a block so that the pin is free and clear to come out, then take a punch with a small hammer and tap it out. The only thing that holds the front and rear trigger pins (trigger plate pin) in the guns is a small D shaped spring clip. The front D shaped spring clip can be on either side, generally we see most on the right side from the factory, so maybe tap it out from the right side towards the left. My guess is either you aren't pushing it with enough force so you need to tap it out with a punch and small hammer, or it is rusted in place so the Kroil will help free this, and I have also seen a few times where people used a solvent or lube that has gummed the parts up so they are basically varnished into place (Very common with Hoppes 9 and similar).
