Barrel Code Results Help

Post by jblance@hotmail.com »

New guy here, I picked up a 870 Express magnum 28” barrel, LE trade-in today. This is my first Remington shotgun. The LGS had these on sale for Christmas and the price was very reasonable. The store where I purchased the shotgun is also a police supply store and has a lot of nice things that us silly-villains cannot possess legally. :| The clerk told me that the shotguns came from the North Carolina Dept. of Corrections. He handpicked the best condition shotgun they had from their store room. It's parkerized and the metal shows very little sign of wear or handling marks. There is some wear in the usual places such as edges and the mag tube but nothing excessive. The wood shows more signs of the finish wearing but no dings or gouges. Overall, I think it’s petty nice.

I looked up the barrel code using the barrel code, CM, lookup utility on this website. It says the shotgun was made in April of 2019 or 1992 or 1965 or 1922. I would have thought the shotgun was made in 2019 given its very good condition but it has a metal trigger guard and the extractor doesn't look like it’s MIM. I haven't taken the extractor off the bolt yet so I could be mistaken. The trigger guard looks to be painted black and show signs of wear. It looks to be silver metal underneath the black paint. Could it be that those shotgun was made in 1992 instead of 2019?

Thanks,
Quibbley
