Picked up this 870 for $400. Couldn't resist for the price. Obviously been restocked and refinished in its life. Built on a Wingmaster receiver. Which brings me to a couple of questions about it. Serial number prefix 'V' indicates the gun was made between 1978 and 1983? It has barrel code of 'AQ' indicating, I believe March of 1978? That being said... with the receiver and barrel being dated to, presumably, 1978, is the barrel even possibly original to the gun? I wouldn't think so... but the dates matching up made me curious.

Re: Tell Me About My 870 Find...
Congrats on the find, js1989. A Wingmaster in OE condition (regardless of condition) would set you back way more than $400.
I am not an expert by any means, but I can share what I think I know about the Wingmaster. Another member may come on after me and blow holes in my story. It happens.
It looks like the furniture on yours is just the synthetic cobb forend and stock like what came OE on my Tactical version model 25077R. I have since swapped it out for Magpul furniture.
I would also hazard to guess the barrel IS NOT OE. Most Wingmasters came with longer barrels (between 24 - 36 inches, I think) with only a beaded sight. I have even seen them with ribbed barrels, but none with OE rifle sights. I have heard of a Slugmaster whispered in hushed rumors, but have never seen one in real life or in any documentation through Remington. Remington does offer an Express Slugger which is offered with rifle sights, but the receiver says 870 Express.
The magazine extension is also an add on. WIngmasters, like most other 870 models, are offered with a 4 round magazine. I have seen lots of Wingmasters on this forum with magazine extensions. My 870 Tactical model 25077R came with a one piece 6 round magazine tube.
