Hi all,
I just bought my first 870 and I am trying to figure out (a) which variant it is and (b) when it was made. I have looked at the info on the rem870 site and others and I find it confusing when it comes to my shotgun.
This shotgun has the following features:
(1) 18 inch barrel
(2) 12 inch magazine tube
(3) Receiver is marked "Remington 870 Magnum", with no "express", "wingmaster", "police", etc.
(4) No rear sight and the front sight is just a bead
(5) The magazine follower is black plastic, not brightly colored.
(6) The barrel code is AK followed by a 9. Barrel has a cylinder bore with no provision for choke tubes.
(7) Receiver serial number is W750292M
(8) Buttstock and foreend "pump handle" are wood.
(9) The receiver serial number has also been written neatly with a silver sharpie on the buttstock near the butt pad and electropenciled onto a side-saddle which came with the gun. While anyone could have done this, it strikes me as something that a police agency would be most likely to do.
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks,
Sean

I also have one. However, they don't seem the same... I'm not sure about that. It is so strange.
