• Mesa Tactical 9” MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail

I set up the laser sight for the length of the house, and the flip up sights are sighted in for slugs at 50 yards. I went with the Mesa rail, as I wanted a long fixed rail, and fear clamping to a barrel. I like the angle on the GG&G Side saddle; makes loading easier.

Interesting setup.

Have you ever looked into adding a +1 magazine extension to that? It looks like you would have enough room on the end, though you'd probably have to remove the detents in the magazine tube to make it reliable. I have yet to see anyone do this with one of the 870s with the long magazine tube, but I think it could work (and judging by your build, it looks like you want to trick that thing out as much as possible)

Wow! Nice setup, your Remington 870 looks impressive.

How is AFG on the forend? Does it work good?

Syncronizor I don't think that a mag extension is going to work. The mag cap holds the barrel on on this model 870. I think seven plus six on the side is enough. If I need more than that I have a .308 with a 20 round clips.
Vitaly I have only tried the AFG2 with 1 & 1.25 oz. slugs. The AFG slapped my forward finger with the recoil fairly hard. I could feel the pain for a few days after shooting about 20 slugs. I didn't find it great for slugs. I'm going to try some .75 oz. reduced recoil slugs next time out, but I think it will be better with shot.

spsreef, thanks for the info! What about GG&G sidesaddle for Remington 870? Do you like angled shotshells position?

The mag cap holds the barrel on any 870. An extension does the same thing, it just has a tube coming out the front to lengthen the magazine.

I wonder if a +1 extension would put it even or close to even with the barrel.

Nice shotgun by the way :)

That's what I was thinking. Even if it goes a little past the end of the barrel, it's not a big deal. On 870s with an 18" barrel like the Marine Magnums, the Remington +2 extension will extend about half an inch past the muzzle (it sits even with an 18.5" barrel) without causing any problems.

Of course, you should do whatever you want with your shotgun, Spsreef. This is just something that's been bouncing around in my head since these long-magazine 870s came out. I'm an engineer, so I hate to see wasted space.

It looks like it would be pretty close. Might have to try that sometime. I wouldn't mind getting another 870 sometime.

I was meeting a friend at an indoor pistol range today, and while waiting for her to show up, I played around with one of the 870s in the adjoining shop. It was a long barrel tube 870 with Magpul furniture and ghost rings. I wasn't a huge fan of the furniture (it felt nice, but put my trigger hand way too far forward), but I did pull out my Leatherman and measure the distance from the barrel guide ring to the muzzle.

There would definitely be space to add a 3-inch +1 extension. It would extend past the end of the barrel a little, but not enough to cause any problems.
