My name is Robert.
I'm not new to firearms. I am 61 years old and have been shooting since I was 4 years old.
I remember when I was barely a Teenager my Older Brother brought home a brand new Remington 870 Wingmaster 12ga. I thought it was cool.
Most of my shotgun hunting up until then was done with an old Winchester Model 12 12ga with a Cutts Compensator.
I like all kinds of shotguns. I recently picked up a couple of Ithaca Model 37 Featherlights. Great guns!
I decided I needed a 870 Wingmaster 12ga, but certainly not one made during the Freedom Group era.
I picked up a 1973 Wingmaster 12ga off of Gunbroker a couple of weeks ago.
It was in honest shape for a gun that old. Used, but not abused.
It has a plain non vent rib barrel marked "MOD" but it has been modified to take screw in chokes. The last 2 3/4 inches of the barrel is enlarged slightly in the area where the chokes screw in. It came with a FULL choke. It appears to be a Colonial thin wall choke.
I took the gun completely apart and cleaned and lubed it. The action is pretty smooth now!
To be honest the more I look at the old 870 and handle it, the more it is growing on me. I really like this shotgun!
I'm going over to Arizona after Christmas to do some Quail and Dove hunting. This 870 is going for sure! I think it's going to be a hunting SON OF A GUN!

Welcome! We'll need pics, of course!
