Hello,
Hoping maybe someone can help me out. I Just bought a used Rem 700 and hoping find some information about what I have. I called Rem Arms and they offered nothing.
The rifle has a 26" threaded barrel, HS Precision PST025 stock, Shilen triiger, HSP trigger guard, Badger Ordnance bolt knob. I was thinking maybe it was a police model that someone upgraded but not so sure. The seller took it in on trade and didn't know much about it.
Thanks in advance,
Rem 700 Build Question
Re: Rem 700 Build Question
Sounds like you just have one of the "almost" tactical chassis models that are popular amongst folks who style themselves as "operators". Good for long range target shooting, a bit heavy for hunting to pack it around all day. A picture would help. But offhand that's my guess. If you can, find a Remington Arms firearms catalog from a few years before their bankruptcy and see if a model looks similar. Your LGS may have old Remmie catalogs around.

Here is a picture the day I bought it.
Re: Rem 700 Build Question
It's Marked 700 not 40X.
Re: Rem 700 Build Question
My guess, having dealt with/owned/built, many rem 700's over the years....
That started life as a police model (based on the non-glare almost parkerized finish).
The stock is an HS Precision tactical (I have several). A police model would most likely have come with a standard HS Precision with wide forearm and heavy barrel channel. That stock on yours is much higher priced.
Obviously the bolt knob, trigger, etc were added by a previous owner.
I would bet that with high quality ammo, or better yet, handloads (think 180gr pills with RL22) that that rig will shoot quite nicely,....at least every one I have worked with did so with very little help.
Here is your stock, and what I paid for the several I own. great stock with a ton of features, but a bit heavy for all day carry.

Re: Rem 700 Build Question
Thanks for the information. Is there a way to look up the serial number for the build? I called Rem Arms and they don't have any details since taking over.
Re: Rem 700 Build Question
I believe a search will turn up some sites as well as some topics on various pages where members have posted serial number charts. At least that is how I have done it in the past.
