I have a Hastings barrel that fits an 1187 (I'm guessing an 1100 too) ...

Great info, can you confirm the numbers on yours match the OP? Since an 870-barrel won't fit an 1100/11-87, there may shed some light on the OP's barrel. Perhaps his is for an 1100/11-87 also.

... However, my grandson found that on the underside of the barrel, it is marked M1100.

The barrel I have is marked M1100 as well.

To load it, you engage the safety, put the primer in place, release the bolt, load your bp into the barrel & then the slug. After that all you have to do is click the safety off and fire. The action stays forward as there's no shell to eject. Simply open the bolt & pop the primer out to start all over again.

Here are the markings on mine
