My New production first impression

Post by Oldbrass »

I handled a new 870 a few years ago and it was a P.O.S. I handled this 12 gauge 870 express this morning at sportsmans warehouse. I can't believe it's the same company (I guess it isn't) Anyway I Laid down $389 and took it home. The action is buttery smooth like the old days, I had a wingmaster when I was a kid ,the barrel chamber is smooth as glass, the fit and finish is great ,the vent rib and bead sight are perfectly centered, the matte finish has no blemishes, the choke tube threads are cleanly cut and screw in easily with no binding. I only put a few rounds of #4 nitro turkey thru it this afternoon which is hardly a torture test but it cycled great and as I mentioned it's buttery smooth. I wish it had an aluminum trigger housing but oh well.. I don't know if it needs it but I'll install a forged extractor and metal magazine follower like I did with my 20 gauge 870. I'm hoping Remmy has finally pulled there head out and this is a sign of things to come, I'll give more review when I get to the duck blind, sorry for the long post.. MEH, not really. Happy Thanksgiving.. OB

We love long posts, and gun porn (pics!) too. Thanks for the review. Glad you got a good one.

Thanks for the review, I heard the pre production models were not so good. This is good news about production guns.

Could you please make some close-up pics? Really happy to know that they are back in stock!

Yes I will get her out soon and do that. Right now we have had an ice storm and the temps are really cold. Hope soon to get those pictures.

I just picked up a new 20ga 870 last week and the receiver does not have “express” stamped on it nor does the barrel have a date code stamped on the side. Is this rare? All Remingtons I’ve come across have the barrel stamped and most all the recent 870’s that I have seen have had the “express” stamped on the receiver.

First shotgun I’ve owned and although I haven’t handled a lot of 870’s while shopping around, I have noticed that this one is smooth, tight and the fit and finish is really good.

Haven’t put any rounds through it though
