Wingmaster too far gone?
A friend of mine offered his Remington 870 Wingmaster in a trade today and while I am interested in it I am just not sure if its worth the work I would want to do to it.
This gun has some of the worst pitting and gouges I have seen on a functioning weapon, and while he has fired it and it functions fine, I may want to sell or trade it down the line and dont want to wind up with something thats practically worthless.
Does anyone have suggestions as to cheap ways to make the gun look like it wasn't gnawed on by a wild boar for a couple years?

Re: Wingmaster too far gone?
Some of those pits look pretty deep. Frankly if I had a need for a truck gun for the occasional near-the-road turkey or somesuch, I'd keep it for that. Don't expect to get that back to as-new lookee condition.Bigbosssaint21 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 8:58 pm Does anyone have suggestions as to cheap ways to make the gun look like it wasn't gnawed on by a wild boar for a couple years?

Right, Yeah I dont think I would try to get much out of it. My friend wants to trade my snub nose .357 Taurus for it, so I would have about $450 worth of trade value in the shotgun.
Re: Wingmaster too far gone?
Maybe a $100 gun. I wouldn't trade anything for it.
Re: Wingmaster too far gone?
Agreed, the Taurus has more value than the Wingmaster, which is old, used, worn and pitted, but may still serve. But it's no longer at Wingmaster-value.

I appreciate the responses, I am gonna tell him I pass on the trade, unless he'll be interested in something much less valuable lol half the guys I work with are backyard hunters and all grew up with beat up shotguns to begin with so they said to get it but my other friends who trade guns as often as I do weren't so sure about it either.

Wow! That thing is hammered
Maybe Bondo?
That's a joke.
I think any sort of restoration would cost more than its worth. In todays prices I'd guess it's worth more than $100 but I certainly wouldn't trade a Taurus for it.
Field strip it before purchasing. There's a good chance it's fine but there is a chance the internals are rusted too. At best it's a truck gun.

Great HD gun. If it gets stolen you’re not out of much.

Actually look at it this way, use that Wingmaster to hunt with. You'll never worry about a scratch or dent ever again.

Dropping it in a swamp, on rocks, lending it out, or putting expensive finishes on it. Just about any "Oopsie" you could name.

If you can get it cheap, get it.
