870 Express Slug Question

So I recently purchased a 870 Express with the smooth barrel and a modified choke. First shotgun/gun period. I bought it mainly for hunting grouse but me and a friend are taking it too the range tomorrow and I was thinking of buying a box of slugs for a little fun. I just want to make sure I won't harm myself/ my friend or my gun. I'm pretty sure I'm okay but I'm a newbie and want to be sure. Thanks.

you only want to use the rifled slugs in your smoothbore barrel (with an ic, or mod choke). Saboted slugs are only for rifled barrels.

Federal's flight control turkey XXXXXX loads pattern pretty well from a mod, or full choke, if you don't want to spend the money on a new choke.

Make sure you actually test slugs, or turkey loads, on paper, before you go hunting! Figure out where they hit and how far you can shoot them accurately!
