Older 870 Mag Issue
I have a 870 made in 1964. The top of the mag tube has a cap that cannot be removed with a screwdriver. Does anyone know of a tool for this? I have checked with Numrich and don't see one. Ref photo.

Not sure what you mean by "cannot be removed with a screwdriver" because that's exactly how that manner of retainer was supposed to be removed. It acts like an internal c-clip. Those two small cuts near the top of your pic allow the retainer to be sprung inwards with a flat-tip screwdriver in the larger cut near the bottom. Are you having trouble removing yours?

Gotta kind of rock it back and forth, side to side, it'll creep out, then eject with great flourish and vigor. Keep your hand over it.

Put it in center round hole and rock it back and forth.

Just don’t ever use the lip of the tube as a lever point.rainman1977 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 10:10 pm Got it!!! Sorry for being so thick headed. She can now hold five shells.

Damages the tub lip.

Might consider a new spring at some point. They're cheap and cycling a spring weakens it. Depends on how it was used, but I always change the spring when I acquire a new-old 870.
