Roundhill starting up the 870 line first. If the employees can get out of their own way. Don't blame the union for doing what unions do (selling memberships as an income stream). It's the employees who vote them in for representation.

Moving a factory isnt hard. They'll start back up in Ilion to generate some revenue but I wont be surprised if they move south within five years. Making firearms isnt difficult, the processes and equipment are nothing exotic, and while the union will claim special magical powers to accomplish the tasks they haven't proved to be anything special based on what they've been producing recently. I will say allowing/enabling the decline in quality is a management issue so the blame is shared.

Skilled or unskilled labor, people have a right to be in a union.
Re: Roundhill: 870 Will Be First
All I know is, if I see a new 870 on the shelf for $300 here in California, I’m buying it.
Re: Roundhill: 870 Will Be First
We all have lots of rights. Contracts are negotiated, nobody was forced to sign anything. I've seen good contracts that were fair to employees that did not hinder the long term prospects for the company's viability. I've also seen one side overplay their hand one way or the other. In those cases the short term "winner" lost in the long term. One management team whittled away their valued talent for low cost employees and suffered low caliber employees. One union team held critical customer commitments hostage so got their 5 yr contract they wanted. Leadership used those five years to prepare to move the factory. Both scenarios were fair and square, handshakes and all.
Re: Roundhill: 870 Will Be First
And there's also right-to-work if you don't want to be in a union. Unions have their place, but they aren't the reason for business.

Here's a risk unions must consider at negotiation time. Today's manager's job is to get something ratified and get back to business. Unless the board of directors forces a strong stand the management team is likely to give the union what they think is necessary to resume work. How long has that management team worked at your plant? The ink on their resumes is NEVER dry, and they're likely to give the union what they want even if it cripples the business in ten years. They're on to their next job. Where does that leave the employees?
Careful what you demand. The management team is likely to be just enough a bunch of a-holes to give it to you. They wont be around when it all falls apart.
