Hi gang, thought I’d look into opinions from more experienced shooters on this subject.
SUBJECT:
Remington 870 Safety Button Upgrade.
1. Stock safety button. It works but many users (HD in particular) feel a larger safety button is easier to find. (I agree personally).
2. Wilson Combat Jumbo button, good bit larger diameter and pretty good feel (I have one).
3. S&J Hardware jumbo button. Looks to be much thicker than the Wilson and had a flat rounded surface. Some people report it doesn’t work with some stocks and many also say it’s TOO easy to click off the safety when you might not want to (others seem to like that)
4. Vang Domed Safety button. Like the S&J some say it sticks out too far and even with the safety off it interferes a bit with the trigger finger.
5. I’ve seen other brands that seem similar to the ones mentioned above, so didn’t bother noting those.
Ok, so I’ll like to hear any and all opinions on the use of these aftermarket safeties for whatever use you uses them, like them, hate them, everything.
Thanks

Re: Remington 870 Safety Button Upgrade Opinions
I have both S&J Hardware and Vang Domed safeties. The Vang is slightly taller but both have pretty much the same feel. Both take a little time to get used to them, but both work great. The Vang has a high polished blue/black finish while the S&J has a matte parkerized finish. Their whole purpose is to disengage the safety quickly and both excel at that. Yes the are easy to disengage, but If you don’t want to disengage the safety keep your finger out of the triggerguard

Been getting by with factory button. Don't have anything against a bigger button except they cost money and dont solve any problem I have.

Thanks for the input, yes, keeping ones fingers where they belong is likely the best safety.Banshee wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 1:48 am I have both S&J Hardware and Vang Domed safeties. Re: Remington 870 Safety Button Upgrade Opinions
For home defense, I store it using my definition of cruiser ready, which is magazine tube loaded, chamber empty, slide unlocked, and safety off. The safety button itself is not really an issue one way or the other. Obsessing over the safety button is kind of like worrying about carrying a 1911 cocked-and-locked.
Although I'm not always a big fan of Ayoob, he once published an article suggesting you evaluate your defensive capabilities across the following criteria:
Having cool guns
Being a good shot
Using body armor
Finding the threat
Identifying the threat
Blinding the threat
Using non-lethal alternatives
Calling for help
Calling police

My shotgun is in a wall mounted quick lock, in a version of Cruiser Ready. I can hold the forearm in the left hand , pop the lock wither the right hand and the weight of the gun makes it drop and chamber a round ( yes safety is off)
I’m not really “obsessing” over what safety button to use so much as much as wanting to be able to quickly insure it’s off without needed to look or think much about it as lights may or may not be on.
