Sling troubles

Well maybe it’s me, maybe I’m trying to sling the gun in a way it’s just not made for or maybe I just need to go full on tactical with all the Magpul gear (stock, forearm, etc)

I’ve tried several different sling mounts and placements using assorted possessions (left side barrel, right side barrel, under barrel) and tried over right shoulder and left shoulder, muzzle up, muzzle down, across the back, across the chest , all bad.
It’s either clumsy or the butt is trying to knock my teeth out.

Granted the basic wood stock and peg mounts aren’t high tech combat mounts, but it’s just awful and there’s no way to properly shoulder the gun to shoot. I’m 6’ 2” and have a pretty good reach, but even so, the gun feels long to me.
The only good “fix” is to hang it around my neck like a giant necklace, but if it slides, the butt stock will knock me cold.

I considered drilling and putting a QD cup on the side of the wood stock, but it’s so long it would still hit me in the face if across my chest.

All together, I’m not a hunter, not overly interested in Trap though it maybe my only option to shoot near by and the gun is really for HD , so not too sure about trying to shooting trap with a full tactical style 870.

So at this point while I’m concerning my options , I’m annoyed I’ve yet to fire pride and joy (as much as it’s bugging me at the moment) and I’d like to shoot it somewhere, geez ... California uhg sucks sometimes and COVID ain’t helping.

Any thoughts? Make it shorter? Dump the sling? Spend more on a gun I haven’t fired?

Maybe look at a magpul SGA Stock https://magpul.com/sga-stock-remington- ... =undefined you have the option to add QD or just go through loops on wither side. You can add this as well. for a differnt position https://magpul.com/catalog/product/view ... =undefined
