Mag Extension beyond muzzle

I had a Choate mag extension on my 18.5" 870. No problem, but I thought I still had a factory extension squirreled away. I finally dug it out but it sticks out a good 1.75" past the muzzle. I assume it is for a 20" barrel. Other than increasing the overall length of the shotgun is there a problem with the extension out past the muzzle?

The knurled nut is on backwards. And no, it wont hurt anything.

Thanks. I probably will go back to the Choate extension anyway. The Rem extension must have been for my 20 inch slug barrel. I would never realized the knurled nut was backwards if you hadn't pointed it out.

If you do decide to use the the long tube, I’d suggest a mag tube clamp of some sort.

Went back to the Choate extension. I didn't want to trade OAL for one extra round
