Nordic +4 vs Vang Comp +2 extension weight

Post by nugi »

I'm looking for a good balance of weight and firepower for my 870 20 gauge. Nordic's aluminum is said to be lightweight and the smallest they make is +4. Vang Comp makes a +2 20 gauge extension out of monolithic steel. Will they both end up weighing a similar amount or will the smaller size/capacity of the Vang Comp vs the lighter materials of the Nordic make a noticeable difference?

Thanks

For me durability is paramount. The extension, even clamped, is a primary vulnerability. If broken off or even kinked the gun is out of commission. So I opt for steel extensions. I dont need to carry the shotgun long distances and the weight doesnt bother me.

Point taken, but isn't the threaded connection point between the factory tube and extension just as likely to break if a steel extension is knocked as with an aluminum one?

Nordic brand makes a +1, a +2 and all the way to like +7. They are extremely durable and very strong. I use a Nordic +3 on mine.
Due to the increased price of ammo, don't expect a warning shot...

I recon so. I've read somewhere thats where it'll break, not sure.

From everything I can tell the smallest size they make for 20 gauge is +4. I clarified my original post, my question is whether 2 rounds in a monolithic steel extension tube will be noticeably heavier than 4 rounds in a light aluminum tube

No, for sure no it wouldn't be heavier.
